Studio at 17:

Greatest Hits

On Saturday 6 September 2025, Modern Painters, New Decorators launched its new venue in Aumberry Gap, Loughborough with Greatest Hits — a group exhibition from Studio at 17.

Celebrating over three decades of inclusive, community-led creativity, Greatest Hits brings together the work of eleven artists from Studio at 17, a Loughborough-based collective and studio community. The exhibition was a part of a special Grand Opening event marking the start of a new chapter for Modern Painters, New Decorators. Presented across a salon-style wall hang and a series of sculptural niches, Greatest Hits features multiple works by each artist — a curated mix of standout pieces from across their practices. The exhibition included lino prints, collaged found materials, camcorder videos, and intimate drawings, all shaped by personal experience and the shared energy of studio life.

Studio at 17, formerly Albert Street Artists, has supported artists with lived experience of long-term mental ill health for over 30 years. Based on Southfields Road, the group provides studio space, peer support, and a platform for making and exhibiting. Tangent Gallery, their public-facing space, sits alongside their active studio environment.

Artists featured in Greatest Hits include Lauren Alwyn, Purnima Chavda, Victoria Clark, Davey Grace, Paul Dexter, Elly, Stephen Fox and Allan ‘Ollie’ Oliver. The show also honours the lasting contributions of past members Christopher Atkinson, Lydia Billington and Jean Marriot, whose work was included in the exhibition. This exhibition was supported by Arts Council England.
